Someone once told me that China is a sleeping giant, is China waking up or are they still sleeping?

What's happening here? Just 10 years ago I hardly seen any stock symbol from China on CNBC and now I see a whole bunch and also the news today is always about China this or China that?! Why is it that when on CNBC, China comes out with some little bad news and our market crashes?
